Here’s How to Give Yourself a Spa-Like Facial At Home

Going to get a professional facial can be a lot. Money-wise, time-wise and right now, quarantine-wise. So instead, why not try giving yourself one at home? We recommend doing this before bed to really allow your efforts to soak in overnight. Plus, it’s such a calming experience that you’ll be tempted to hit the sheets anyway.

Insider tip: The best way to get your hands on facial-worthy products is to buy them in a gift set. We likethis one from Olay($89;$56). That way, you get a bundle of things that are meant to be used in tandem for a fraction of the price you’d pay buying them full-size and individually.

Let’s get started, shall we? Here’s exactly how to give yourself a DIY facial at home.

Step 1: Create Atmosphere

Half of what you love about a spa facial is the mood it puts you in, right? Don’t let your at-home treatment be any different. Light a candle, play some chill music, dim the lights…basically enlist any calming components you love to create an ambiance in your bathroom that’s equal parts soothing and inviting.

Step 2: Cleanse And Exfoliate

You’re going to want to start with a clean palette before diving into treatments. We recommend double cleansing to get the job done. The first round should be with an oil (we likejojobaorcoconut) that you work into your skin, then rinse away. For the second cleanse, grab anOlay Daily Facials Hydrating Cleansing Clothfrom your gift set to wipe away any remaining dirt and oil for a truly thorough clean. They’re formulated with grapeseed extract, glycerin and a special textured fabric cloth thatalsotakes care of exfoliation in the exact same step.

Step 3: Steam Your Pores

This is a key step in any facial—it helps to clear your pores more effectively than cleansing alone, it hydrates, it increases circulation and it allows your skincare products to absorb more deeply. And luckily, it’s super easy to do at home. Here are a couple of methods to choose from:

1)The bowl method.Grab a pot and fill it with water, bringing it to a simmer. Turn off the stove and carefully transfer the water to a bowl. Lean over the bowl, keeping your face about a foot above the water. Hold a towel over the back of your head like a tent to trap escaping steam, and let it open up your pores for about five to ten minutes.

2)The facial compress method.Grab a hand towel and turn your sink tap to hot. Fill your sink or a bowl with the hot water and soak your towel. Wring it out so that the towel is damp, not sopping and place the towel over your face. Pull each corner up so that they meet at the center of your forehead, encapsulating your face. Adjust the towel as needed so you can breathe properly. Relax for five minutes while the steam works its magic.

3)The facial steamer method. If steaming sounds like something you’d like to do regularly, it might be worth investing in afacial steaming device. Simply plug it in, fill it with water, and let the steam work its purifying and hydrating magic.

Step 4: Mask Problem Areas

Pull out theOlay Fresh Reset Clay Stick Mask. After your face has dried from the steam, apply the mask all over or focus it on any specific areas that are extra congested. The stick form let’s you easily target certain spots without mess and the pink mineral complex micro-polishes away lingering surface cells that are clogging your skin. Let it sit for ten minutes, then rinse it away.

Step 5: Give Yourself Facial Massage

While your face is still damp from washing off your mask, apply the玉兰油清爽的脸血清all over. It's formulated with vitamin B3 and helps hydrate skin. Grab aface roller(we suggest sticking it in the fridge at the start of this process so that the stone cools down—it feels amazing) and give yourself afacial massage. Not only will it help the serum absorb deeply into the surface of your skin, it’ll relieve tension and increase circulation for a healthy, plump appearance.

Step 6: Moisturize…heavily

Now it’s time to lock in all of your hard work. Dip a small glob of moisturizer from yourOlay Retinol24 Night Face Moisturizerand gently spread it around your face with your fingertips. Work the product into your skin until it’s mostly absorbed. A night cream is ideal because it’s usually richer than the one you’d use during the day. This particular product, formulated with a retinoid complex and vitamin B3, hydrates for a full 24 hours and helps fight visible dryness.

Now, get some rest and wake up to your best skin yet.
