Netflix Shares Trailer for New Series ‘First Kill’—a Queer Vampire Fantasy

Fantasy lovers who miss the drama and bloodsucking fun of shows likeTrue BloodandThe Vampire Diarieshave reason to celebrate, because a new vampire-centered TV show is set to hitNetflixnext month, and just in time forPride month, the series will feature aqueer romanceat its front.

What happens when you're a teen vampire, but you fall in love with a vampire hunter? That's the conflict that drivesFirst Kill, the newest original series from Netflix, which will premiere on June 10 with eight brand-new episodes.

Based on V. E. Schwab's story of the same name from the short story collection吸血鬼从未变老:故事Fresh Bite, the show follows Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook), a shy high schooler (and a vampire) who meets and quickly falls for new student Calliope (Imani Lewis), who unfortunately comes from a line of monster hunters. As Calliope feels the pressure from her family to hunt and Juliette fends off her urges to feed, the couple will determine whether their love is strong enough to overcome these obstacles.

“You're nothing like the monsters I grew up hating,” Calliope says in the trailer. “I just want to live my life,” Juliette admits to her. As the two develop a romantic relationship, they learn that they will have to choose between each other or their families, which will not be as easy as they thought. (Oh, and they'll have to fight a few monsters along the way as well.)

In addition to Hook and Lewis,First Killstars Jonas Dylan Allen, Elizabeth Mitchell, Gracie Dzienny, Dylan McNamara, Will Swenson, Jason R. Moore, Aubin Wise, Phillip Mullings Jr. and Dominic Goodman.

We'll be counting down the days until June 10.
