4 Unanswered Questions from the ‘Sweet Magnolias’ Season 3 Finale

Things get pretty serious between Helen and Erik (Dion Johnstone) in the second season ofSweet Magnolias. And many fans believed that they were on track to become the latest “it” couple of Serenity. However, their fairytale love story is cut short when Helen’s ex-boyfriend, Ryan (Michael Shenefelt), returns in the final episode and asks her to marry him.

Then comes season three where fans find Helen trying to decide who she should be with—Erik or Ryan. But in the end, Helen chooses Ryan and tries to give their relationship another shot. Because Ryan loves to travel and often finds himself on the go, he has a hard time adjusting to his new life in Serenity. Eventually, Ryan can’t take it anymore and breaks up with Helen because he believes she should be with someone who “deserves” her.

Now that Ryan is out of the picture, it begs the question:Is there a chance that Helen and Erik will get back together?From the subtle glances to the longing look they share after Helen catches the flower bouquet at Dana Sue and Ronnie’s vow renewal ceremony, viewers are left wondering what’s next for the former lovebirds. But until we learn what the future holds for Helen and Erik, we just hope they can repair their friendship at the very least.

Earlier in the series, Annie (Anneliese Judge) reveals that she has a crush on Ty (Carson Rowland), but he doesn't feel the same way about her. In the third season, Annie starts having a secret relationship with Jackson (Sam Ashby), and Ty helps them sneak around. However, during this time, Ty starts to develop feelings for Annie because he feels she deserves better.

Annie breaks up with Jackson because she doesn’t want to keep their relationship a secret anymore. Afterwards, Annie runs to Ty for comfort. Fast forward to Dana Sue and Ronnie’s vow renewal party in the season three finale, Ty walks up to Annie and asks her how she is doing after the breakup, and for a brief moment, they stare into each other’s eyes and hold hands. Could there be a future for Annie and Ty?

Season three was Peggy’s (Brittany L. Smith) time to shine. Aside from being a part of Mary Vaughn’s friend group, audiences got a chance to know her on a deeper level. In addition to being Isaac’s biological birth mother, we’ve seen Peggy struggle to be a mom to the son she gave up for adoption many years ago. After Trent (Paul Rolfes) and his wife Mary Vaughn leave town, the position of mayor remains open. While sitting in a cafe, Helen runs into Peggy and proposes she should become the new mayor. Mayor Peggy has a nice ring to it, right?

One of the biggest questions fans had was the identity of Isaac’s (Chris Medlin) biological parents. In season two, we find out that Peggy is his mother. And later on in the season finale, we learn that Isaac’s father is…Maddie’s former husband, Bill (Chris Klein). While Noreen (Jamie Lynn Spears) and her newborn daughter, Rebecca (aka Peanut), are temporarily living with Isaac in season three, he doesn’t know how to reveal to Noreen that her child is his half-sister. And given how close they have become throughout the series, Isaac is scared of what this secret will do to their friendship. Because once he does tell the truth, it will changeeverything.
