Value:Does a store offer well-priced merchandise? Or if it’s on the higher-end, are there end-of-season and other special sales we can take advantage of?

Design:Sure, we may love the clothes but if our child won’t deign to put it on, it’s a waste. So we’re searching for that sweet spot of presentable yet appealing to the littles.

Size and gender range:We appreciate a wide range of not only ages but also size permutations, such as slim and husky pants cuts, as well as gender-neutral options.

Shipping and return ease:No matter how sure we and our children are that we’ll adore something we see online, we need the option to return it if we don’t love it in person (or if we’ve had a growth spurt by the time it’s shipped). So flexible shipping, exchanges and returns are a must.

9 Adaptive Clothing Brands for Kids That Don’t Sacrifice Style

Most Unique Styles

1.Zara

Zara

  • What We Like:modern styling, cool collabs
  • What We Don't Like:site is difficult to navigate, non-sale items can be pricey
  • Age Range:newborn to 14
  • Price Range:dresses average $30, pants average $30

Creative families will enjoy the fashion-forward styling and cool collabs (Barbie, Muhammed Ali) of Zara Kids. “Very chic clothing for kids,” says Executive Editor Alexia Dellner. “With two very active kiddos, I definitely prioritize function over style (seriously—my kids go through like three outfits a day), but sometimes you really do want something that's not brightly colored or covered in firetrucks. I actually especially like them for girls clothing—when I had my daughter, I found that a lot of other brands really went all in on frilly, princess dresses which is of course fine, but it was weird to me that there were so few other options. Zara does a great job offering girls’ clothing that comes in a range of earthy tones and cool styles (my daughter wore a très chic black overall set from there for her first birthday and got loads of compliments)."

Best Sporty Styles

2.Nike

Nike

  • What We Like:ultra-comfy sweats, 60-day return window
  • What We Don't Like:lack of non-sporty options
  • Age Range:newborn to mid-teens
  • Price Range:shoes average $90, hoodies average $55

Brand Exec Mirissa Kelly says her 9-year-old son “wears Nike from head to toe and nothing else. I would say that the quality is top-notch, and he loves to match color ways…he'll do blue tones or yellow tones or red from head to toe, including socks.” She says he’s in track pants on cooler days and shorts during the hot Los Angeles summers. “And he got this customized Nike hoodie that he pairs with everything.”

3.H & M Kids

H&M

  • What We Like:lots of exclusive online merch, durability
  • What We Don't Like:shoes can be stiff
  • Age Range:newborn to 14
  • Price Range:dresses average $20, joggers average $15

“H&M Kids is probably my favorite place to get kids clothing. As a Swede I'm probably biased, but their offerings are functional, stylish and most importantly, will last!” says Dellner. “It drove me crazy when my kids were babies and I would buy a onesie or outfit for them that was labeled as ‘6 months’ and that's exactly what it was—it would fit them for one month, and then as soon as they were 7 months, it was too small! With H&M Kids, I really find that I can get a lot of wear out of the clothing, possibly because the sizes are a little larger, but I much prefer that. Their price point is good, the longevity is noteworthy and their styles and eco-friendly offerings are on point,” she adds. H&M has a reputation as being a dependable source ofunderwear, socksand fun, inexpensivehair accessories, to boot.

  • What We Like:inclusive husky sizing, gender-neutral search option
  • What We Don't Like:so many slogan T-shirts
  • Age Range:0 to 18

"It might feel obvious, but Target is the absolute best source for kids' clothes. They have cute, on-trend patterns and cuts (hello cropped joggers) but at a price point that makes it fine if somebody spills ketchup down the front of their romper," says Editor-in-Chief Jillian Quint. The mega-store offers a wide ad diverse selection of kids' tops, bottoms, dresses and outerwear. Additionally, they’ve got essentials like shoes, backpacks, underwear and socks, so parents can enjoy one-stop shopping for trendy and practical outfits, all at affordable prices. Hanna Andersson

  • What We Like:matching family outfits, long-wearing quality
  • What We Don't Like:pricey (but with great sales)
  • Age Range:0 to 14
  • Price Range:dresses average $50, pants average $48 baby sleepers are $46

“汉娜Andersson最可爱的睡衣,”德尔说lner. “They come in fun prints, without being corny, and they're super soft and fit comfortably. This is beyond cheesy but as soon as I had two kids, I dreamed of getting us all matching holiday PJs for a family card and finally this last Christmas my dream came true (getting both kids to sit still for a photo on the other hand...).” While best known for its wide selection of combed cotton baby zip-up pajamas and bigger kids’ pajama sets as well as those precious matching adult jammies that Dellner is mad for, this brand also makes super soft and durable dresses, tops, pants and underwear. The partnerships with Marvel, Disney, Pokémon and more mean that parents can get clothes emblazoned with Spidey, Elsa and Pikachu characters that are actually cute. Also, the pre-loved section lets you be eco- and cost-conscious by purchasing gently worn items.

闻名的超级柔软的棉一次性在pa出售cks of five, Carter’s has made children’s clothes since 1865, and today it’s a multi-billion dollar company with deals with Amazon, Target and Walmart. Parents depend on Carter’s for well-priced, un-fancy basics that will endure multiple spills, tumbles and hand-wipes, and still wash up great. (And no self-respecting baby would be seen at his or her first family tailgate without one of Carter’s collegiate or pro sports bodysuits.) The Little Planet collection is popular among eco-conscious parents due to its organic materials and sustainable manufacturing practices. And the fan shop is ready to make kids smile with apparel emblazoned with Super Mario, Paw Patrol, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Disney princesses.

Boden

  • What We Like:natural fibers, great sales

  • Price Range:dresses average $70, pants average $50

Here's what a reviewer writes about a pair ofroll-up shortsembroidered with dinosaurs: "They fit great and remind me of an era long ago!" That pretty much describes all of the colorful and classic pieces from Boden, an English men's clothier that launched in 1991 and has since branched out to become an international retailer of men's, women's and children's fashions. Nothing is too precious, and a commitment to sustainability and quality construction mean these clothes are going to be sought-after hand-me-downs.
