These toy pups were officially recognized by the AKC just recently, on January 4, 2021! Pronounced “beaver,” the Biewer terrier originated in the 1980s when Gertrude and Werner Biewer, who bred Yorkshire terriers,生产a puppywith unique black, tan and white coloring. This coloring is the result of a rare, recessive gene called the piebald gene. The world quickly fell in love with these little sweethearts.

To make them happy, give them lots of exercise and don’t force them to meet too many new people in one day.

18. Pyrenean Shepherd

The only breed on our list not recognized by the American Kennel Club is the Telomian. It’s one of the rarest breeds in the world, found only among the Orang Asli, the indigenous people of Malaysia, until the 1960s when they were brought to America. According to Dr. Michelle Burch andSafeHounds, Telomians are true members of the family, participating in protecting the home and gathering food.
