:木屐/:平底鞋

We’re swapping out those Cottagecore clogs for Parisian-inspired ballet flats as a non-boot alternative for cold weather. Flats of just about every style are popping up on the streets of NYC—‘90s square toes, flats with dainty bow details, Mary Janes, pointy-toe silhouettes—and we expect to see the trend expand in popularity even as winter goes into full swing. Pair them with trendiest denim silhouettes, like baggy ’90s styles or straight legs, to ensure they feel modern and grown-up for 2023.

OUT: Aviator and Varsity Jackets / IN: Cropped Puffers

Sporty varsity jackets and bomber styles were all over the runways at the F/W ‘22 shows and lots of folks predicted they would be huge come fall, but we’ve yet to see them actually take off. There’s still the possibility that they’ll have their moment in 2023, but for now we’re loving a cropped puffer silhouette instead. Look for styles that hit right at the hips, and even better if they have a drawcord in the waist for a cinched-in look.

OUT: Mini Skirts / IN: Midis and Maxis

Tennis skirts had their moment in summer, and for a while we were seeingthat Miu Miu micro minion every magazine cover and in editorial spreads. But it seems the general public isn’t quite so enthused about the return of skirts that barely cover our bums. Instead we’re seeing a lot more pencil and A-line midi skirts and ‘90s-inspired, slim-fit maxis. To balance out all that volume on bottom, we suggest wearing longer skirts with cropped sweaters, slim-fit turtlenecks and other trim tops. As for shoes, the world is your oyster, but pointy toes will help elongate your legs and give you a bit more shape than rounder styles or square toes.

OUT: Sporty Kicks and Platforms / IN: Minimalist Retro Silhouettes

Chunky dad shoes, a là the Balenciaga Triple S sneakers, have been on their way out for a while now, but in early fall we were still seeing platforms in abundance, as well as sportier silhouettes with obviously supportive foam soles being worn outside of working out. All of these are being replaced by Adidas Sambas, Onitsuka Tigers and other retro, minimalist sneakers. They’re much more streamlined, and while some do feature bright, colorblocked hues, most are pretty neutral, with maybe a small splash of blue, red or green.

OUT: Hot Pink / IN: Sequins for Day

OK, so hot pink’s hot moment (aka Barbiecore) isn’t truly over, but we are seeing many more colorful sequin pieces popping up as a way to add some glamour and fun to your everyday style instead. The easiest way to make them work during daylight hours is by pairing your glittery items with very casual basics—jeans, chambray shirts, simple knits, shackets, etc.—to help balance out their inherently party-ready vibes.
