Basically, it’s an adaptation of the Bauhaus design style that was popular in Germany at the time, characterized by sleek lines, simple structures and new materials (like velvet).Itwasthestyle du jour from the 1940s through the 1960s, but about ten yearsago it had a total resurgence—possibly to do with a little show known asMad Men.
