An old photo ofKing Charleshas resurfaced, and it proves that he’s always been a fan of kilts.
This week, we stumbled upon a childhood photo ofKing Charlesthat was captured in honor of his seventh birthday. The portrait was taken on the grounds of Balmoral Castle, and it featured the young prince dressed in head-to-toetraditional Scottish clothing.
The picture caught our attention because the 74-year-old monarch wore a near-identical outfit during a recent royal outing (see below). Earlier this month, the monarch visitedCanisbay Church in Caithness, which is the most northern church in Scotland.
He wore a blue-and-green kilt with a matching tie, a jacket and coordinating vest. He even accessorized with long socks and a sporran (or small pouch)—just like he did in his seventh birthday portrait.
As you can see, this wasn’t the first time King Charleshas worn a kilt. (And it certainly won’t be his last.) Not only did he wear them throughout his childhood, but he also sports them while visiting Scotland. (FYI, his seventh birthday portrait was taken in Scotland, along the photo from his recent outing.)
During the latest trip, King Charles also attended the Mey Games and wore a similar Scottish outfit—but this time, it featured a green-and-red tartan pattern.
The royal family shared a slideshow of photos on Instagram and wrote, “A wonderful day at the Mey Games! The King joined spectators in watching traditional sports and presented a trophy to the winning Tug of War team.”
