Apparently, Princess Diana Had Some Thoughts on Prince William Becoming King

Queen Elizabeth may have officially namedPrince Charles as her successorto the throne, but we (along with the rest of the world) weren’t always sure this was going to be the case.

In fact, throughout the years there were rumblings about the possibility ofPrince Williambecoming king instead of his father, thePrince of Wales. And according to a new report, the Duke of Cambridge’s late mother, Princess Diana, had some opinions on the matter.

According toTown & Country, Diana was asked her thoughts about the crown skipping a generation during an interview with BBC1'sPanorama在1995年成为一个对话widely known for covering the topics of her explosive divorce with Charles.

Reporter Martin Bashir asked, "Do you think it would make more sense in the light of the marital difficulties that you and the Prince of Wales have had if the position of monarch passed directly to your son Prince William?"

By her response, it seemed the Princess of Wales wasn’tready for her sonto be put under all of that pressure (he was only 13, after all).

“Well, then you have to see that William's very young at the moment, so do you want a burden like that to be put on his shoulders at such an age?” she replied. “So I can't answer that question.”

When pressed further if it was something the mother of two “wished” for her son, she simply replied, “My wish is that my husband finds peace of mind, and from that follows others things, yes.”
