‘Bridgerton’ Is Here to Stay—Shonda Rhimes Wants to Run the Series for at Least 8 Seasons

1. ‘Prisoner's Wives’

Featuring:Phoebe Dynevor

Before she made Daphne Bridgerton into our newest Regency-era obsession (move over, Elizabeth Bennet), Phoebe Dynevor held a recurring role on the seriesYounger(alongsideHilary Duff). She was also a main character in the seriesSnatch, which is based on the 2017 movie of the same name starring Benicio del Toro andBrad Pitt. But out of all her work, we recommend you check outPrisoner's Wives, a BBC drama series where she plays the daughter of an imprisoned gangster.

2. ‘For the People’

Featuring:Regé-Jean Page

Possibly the biggest star to come out ofBridgertonisRegé-Jean Page,成为一个英雄在他把西蒙Basset. Page's roles have ranged from being a regular on the tenth series ofWaterloo Road(a show in which hisco-star, Phoebe Dynevor, had previously been a cast member) to playing Chicken George in the 2016 remake ofRoots. Yet, if you're looking for another role as swoon-worthy as Simon, we suggestFor the People, an ABC legal drama where Page plays Leonard Knox, the Assistant U.S. Attorney.

3. ‘Derry Girls’

Featuring:Nicola Coughlan

One of the most delightful characters onBridgertonis Penelope "Pen" Featherington, played byNicola Coughlan. While Penelope's character tugged at our heartstrings with her unrequited affections (and we won't spoil that twist ending), she also had a main role in another period drama,Harlots. Yet, we would be remiss not to highlight Coughlan's run as Clare Devlin on the British sitcom,Derry Girls. The series has two seasons so far (with the third premiering in 2022), but Coughlan as a Catholic schoolgirl is something you do not want to miss.

4. ‘Crashing’

Featuring:Jonathan Bailey

Jonathan Bailey—who stars as the eldest Bridgerton child, Anthony (whoseromantic lifewill become the main focus of season two)—has covered a wide range of roles in theatre, film and television. Bailey has played everyone from Leonardo da Vinci inLeonardoto Jamie in a stage performance ofCompany, which earned him a Laurence Olivier Award. However, if you want to watch Bailey in a strikingly different role from hisBridgertoncharacter, then check him out as the brash, sex-obsessed Sam in Phoebe Waller-Bridge'sCrashing.

5. ‘Sex Education’

Featuring:Simone Ashley

Ashley, who stars opposite Anthony Bridgerton as the self-assured Kate Sharma inBridgerton, has already proven that she’s got incredible range. Her very first role happened to be a fantasy drama in 2016 (Wolfblood). Then, she went on to appear in a crime drama (Broadchurch), a Black comedy drama (L'ispettore Coliandro) and a medical soap opera (Doctors). Fast-forward to 2020, and she's winning hearts as Olivia in Netflix’s progressive comedy-drama,Sex Education. Color us impressed.

6. ‘Vanity Fair’

Featuring:Claudia Jesse Peyton

Finally, we must include the independent, well-read Eloise Bridgerton, played by Claudia Jesse Peyton. While Peyton's sharp tongue and restless search for Lady Whistledown brought her to the public's attention, she had previously held recurring roles on multipleBritish series,就像Doctors and Porters. But her most notable role is that of Amelia Sedley in the miniseriesVanity Fair. This historical drama, based on the novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, Peyton plays the daughter of a wealthy London family. (Sound familiar?)
