Julie Andrews Just Had a Reunion with the Kid Stars from ‘The Sound of Music’

Thehills还活着的阶段sound of music on Thursday night, when Julie Andrews was honored with theAmerican Film Institute's (AFI) Life Achievement Award. The ceremony, which was originally supposed to take place in the spring of 2020, celebrated Andrews’s prolific career and her iconic roles in films such asMary Poppins,The Princess Diaries,Thoroughly Modern Millieand more. But one of the best moments of the night occurred during a tribute to her role as Maria inThe Sound of Music, when five of the stars who played the von Trapp children surprised Andrews with a performance of“Do-Re-Mi.”

Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Duane Chase (Kurt), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Debbie Turner (Marta) and Kym Karath (Gretl) all walked onto the stage and performed the iconic song from the film, wherein Andrews's character teaches the von Trapp children how to sing the notes of a major scale. A video of the moment wasshared to Twitterby awards columnist Scott Feinberg, who said, “Julie Andrews is surprised by her kids from THE SOUND OF MUSIC and joins them in a sing-a-long of ‘Do-Re-Mi’ to kick off the AFI Life Achievement Award presentation to her — what a beautiful moment!”

Sadly, two of the young actors fromThe Sound of Music, Charmian Carr and Heather Menzies (who played Liesl and Louisa von Trapp), were not present at the event because they passed away in 2016 and 2017.

However, we see the rest of the group give a rousing performance of the number, and the five actors even ended up walking out into the audience and singing behind Andrews, who eventually joined in and sang along with them.

The entire AFI Life Achievement Award special will be aired on TNT on June 16 at 10 p.m. EST. We will definitely be tuning in.
