Royal Family Shares Video of Queen Elizabeth on the Eve of Her Historic Accession Day

On February 6, 1952, the British monarchbecame queenfollowing the shocking death ofher father, and although she wasn'tcoronateduntil a year later, on June 2, 1953, her accession that previous February makes it 70 years since she first took the throne.

So, this year's Accession Day is particularly special for the queen, because she is thefirst British monarch to reach this milestone, and the royal family shared a video to show how she is celebrating the eve of this historic day.

In the video, Her Royal Majesty is seen cutting a cake, accepting flowers and watching a band perform outside of her door atSandringham House. The caption of the clip explained, “The Queen has hosted a reception for local community groups at Sandringham House on the eve of Accession Day. Her Majesty is the first Monarch in history to reach the historic milestone of 70 years on the throne.”

The caption also revealed information on who joined the queen for the festivities, saying, “The Queen was joined by members of the Sandringham Women’s Institute, pensioners who live on the Sandringham Estate, West Norfolk Befriending and Little Discoverers, an early-years charity for children with disabilities. Amongst the guests was Angela Wood, who helped create the original recipe for coronation chicken as a cookery student in 1953.”

Yesterday, we saw a different way that the queen was celebrating, thanks to another post on the royal family Instagram. In the caption they said, “This year The Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years as Monarch. To begin the celebrations, Her Majesty viewed a selection of cards, letters and artwork sent to her by children and other members of the public to mark this, and previous, Jubilees.”
