Sarah Jessica Parker Says She Doesn’t Let Aging Affect Her

This past winter, Sarah Jessica Parker revisited her famous (or, should we say臭名昭著的)Sex and the Citycharacter,Carrie Bradshaw, in the HBO Max reboot series,And Just Like That...And while this new iteration transformed the show in many ways, one of the most notable shifts was the new focus on aging. Exploring getting older from the perspective of older women was refreshing for modern TV, and it's something Parker discussed in a new interview withInStyle.

“I don't think about [aging],” Parker confessed. “I mean, that's the God's honest truth.” However, she added, “I'm forced to think about it because of what I do for a living and because other people seem to want me to think about it or they're thinking about my age.”

TheSATCstar made a point of saying, “It doesn't mean that I'm delusional or that I live in some false universe where I'm in amber and I'm not changing.” However, she noted the discrepancy between men and women when it comes to aging, saying, “I don't have anxiety about it, and it's not that I'm better than those that do, because I think the anxiety is legitimate and well-placed because there is such a huge amount of focus and attention on women and aging. I'm confounded by the fact that we simply don't talk about men that way. It's bizarre to me that we are still so transparently sexist about these things.”

Toward the end of her interview, Parker wanted to remind people that most of the time, age isn't perceived by others in the way that we fear. “When you turn to people in your life, whether they're older by a lot or a little or younger, you don't care how they've maintained their youth," she said. “You for sure are not making any judgments about whether they have wrinkles or jowls or gray hair or blonde hair."

Wise words to live by, SJP.
