Think of it as a current-day version ofGilmore Girls, following a mother-daughter duo—Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Georgia (Brianne Howey)—as they navigate several of life’s obstacles. This includes Georgia stealing everyone’s attention at the school drop-off and then trying to buy drugs from one of Ginny’s new classmates.
“We wantedGinny & Georgiato be a fun, feel-good ride about women, by women, for everyone; one that depicted a nuanced and complicated mother-daughter relationship and layered female friendships in a way that isn’t always seen in shows,” said producer Debra J. Fisher in a press release. “It’s a show with smart women who are funny and complicated and troubled and intense and have dimension and agency. It has drama, mystery, darkness, humor and living room dance parties.”
In addition to Gentry and Howey, the series also stars Diesel La Torraca (Austin), Jennifer Robertson (Ellen), Felix Mallard (Marcus), Sara Waisglass (Maxine), Scott Porter (Mayor Paul Randolph), Raymond Ablack (Joe) and Mason Temple (Hunter).
Ginny & Georgiawas created by Sarah Lampert (Haze). Anya Adams (Black-ish), Catalina Aguilar Mastretta (The Hours with You), Renuka Jeyapalan (Big Girl), Sudz Sutherland (Love, Sex and Eating the Bones) and Aleysa Young (Baroness Von Sketch Show) each directed two of the ten episodes.
Absolutely. It introduces viewers to the mother-daughter duo, who recently moved to a new town in Massachusetts. “We’re like theGilmore Girls…but with bigger boobs,” Georgia says in the clip.
Since Georgia had Ginny when she was only 15 years old, they don’t see eye to eye with regards to how Ginny should spend her teenage years. “My mom deals with her problems by ignoring them, bundling them up and packing it away,” Ginny says. And then continues, “She promised this time would be different, but everywhere has problems.”
Can Georgia put her past behind her? Or will her secrets continue to haunt them wherever they go? Guess we’ll have to tune in to find out.
